INDONESIA: A 5m ceiling and structural beams have put a compact L-Acoustics system at the heart of a new events venue in Bali, with Gracia Auvindo using Soundvision modelling to secure the contract and demonstrate the installation before equipment arrived onsite.

The Jakarta-based L-Acoustics partner won a three way tender to equip the Ambassador Lounge at Secret Garden Spring, a lifestyle complex located on Sunset Road, Kuta. The venue forms part of the latest venture from Balinese company Secret Garden Group, which expects the complex to attract more than 600,000 visitors annually. 

Located on the top floor, the lounge seats between 350 and 400 guests, depending on configuration. Folding partitions allow the space to be divided into three meeting rooms, while its primary function is to accommodate both corporate events and live performances.

Measuring 27m x 19m, the room presented a number of design challenges. Its 5m ceiling, structural beams and LED screens along the presentation wall restricted the available rigging space and meant the system needed to deliver speech intelligibility and music performance without obstructing sightlines.

Gracia Auvindo rebuilt the lounge in Soundvision using the venue’s architectural drawings, including its structural beams. The model allowed the team to demonstrate loudspeaker coverage, rigging mechanics and electrical consumption to the owners before a single loudspeaker had been ordered.

“It’s a very powerful use of the software,” said Hendra Halim, application director at Gracia Auvindo. “We can simulate the room and show the client exactly how the installation will look, with the power consumption and everything else explained within it.Being able to show them exactly how it would look and perform on screen, before a single box had arrived onsite, was what gave them the confidence to choose us.”

The installed system comprises a hang of two A10 Focus and one A10 Wide per side, positioned above the LED screens. Four KS21i subwoofers are flown centrally, while four X6i enclosures provide front fill. Three LA4X amplified controllers power the system. The arrangement keeps the screens unobstructed while maximising the available height for the arrays within the low-ceilinged room.

Since opening, the lounge has hosted both meetings and live music using the same system. “The system itself is easy to work with and the owners were thrilled from the very first event,” Halim concluded. “They told us they didn’t expect a room this size to sound this good and we consider that a job really well done.”
