INDONESIA: Yogyakarta-based rental company Thunder Productions has taken stock of an L-Acoustics L2 system. As the first Indonesian rental company to become an L2 partner, the Yogyakarta-based company becomes the fourth in the APAC region to join the growing network. In addition, Thunder Productions has upgraded its’ inventory with two DiGiCo Quantum 338 consoles.

Comprising of six L2 and dual L2D arrays, 16 dual 18-inch subwoofers, two LA RAK III and two LA RAK II AVB racks in addition to a comprehensive inventory of accessories, the L2 package was air freighted directly into Jakarta from France. “Since the restrictions for the pandemic ended two to three years ago, it’s been non-stop,” declared Thunder Productions’ owner and founder Adi Rivanto.

Designed to work together or on their own, the L Series array comprises of L2 above and L2D below, each providing the same contour as four K2 elements in a format that is 46 per cent smaller and 40 per cent lighter. Each L element combines eight three-inch high-frequency drivers with eight ten-inch low-frequency drivers, complemented by four side-loaded 12-inch drivers with front and back exits to deliver efficient broadband coverage and a choice of cardioid or super-cardioid patterns.

Having amassed a large warehouse of Dynacord, Electrovoice, Coda Audio and EAW loudspeaker systems over the years, Rivanto revealed that a listening demonstration for his first L-Acoustics purchase to date was not necessary. “It has this almost totemistic look with striking features that makes it stand out from other speaker systems, so as soon as I saw the L2 in Singapore, I knew we had to bring it to Indonesia. By making this investment, I am leading by example to promote better audio quality for live events in Indonesia.”

As a raw, but passionate 25-year-old, Rivanto bought his first small PA system in 2000 and through hard work and determination, has not looked back. In addition to the 65 personnel operating from the Yogyakarta headquarters, another 110 full-time employees work at the main Jakarta logistics and warehouse centre. “I’ve noticed a change in the market and venues and promoters now understand the need for high quality audio. There are more shows than ever before, and with increasing demand, professional audio quality has become the main priority of any production.”

Rivanto reveals that domestic and international touring engineers are also driving the demand for high quality audio by insisting on using best in class brands. “To ensure their live events are successful, our clients demand high quality audio, and this is allowing us to invest in premium touring brands. Both DiGiCo and L-Acoustics fit that category, and I don’t foresee the L2 staying in our warehouse for any length of time. It’s early days, but demand for the L2 is very high, so we may need to share resources with other APAC partners including The Show Company in Singapore.”

Acquired through PT Gracia Auvindo, Thunder Productions personnel all received three days L2 training and certification. Having got to grips with the L2 and listening to its sonic qualities, Rivanto feels vindicated by his impulse purchase. “It is almost a plug and play setup. V-DOSC and K-series dominated the market for years, and L2 will be another iconic system under the L-Acoustics umbrella that will endure.”
